I surprised my Mom when I picked her up from work today. My Mom, Dad and I had a chat about my plans. I told them I booked my flight for September 29th. I felt both of them getting sad, yet happy for me as they recalled they weren’t much older themselves when they left communistic Poland back in ‘84 to give their kids a better future in the west. Now it was my turn to go to the land of opportunity and we came full circle. I convinced my Mom she should get a webcam and and iPhone to stay in touch. She played with Bangladesh for a bit and was sold!

I drove back home around midnight and picked up the NRC at a gas station. I wanted to read Saul van Stapele’s story on Wayne, that was published today. Saul is my all time favorite journalist and hip hop connoisseur. Great guy, too. Smart, sarcastic but oh so funny and to the point. Great reading. His previous story on Jay-Z was sick, too.
